Vancouver, B.C. based trumpeter, engineer, and producer Chris Davis's powerful, soulful, and swinging approach to his instrument has made him one of the most sought after musicians in Vancouver as well as one of the most recognizable voices in the Canadian music scene. His large warm tone is often compared to that of Clifford Brown - his feel to Lee Morgan's - and his power and excitement to that of Dizzy Gillespie.
Chris was born in Lake Charles, Louisiana in 1982 but spent the greater of his life in Amelia Island, Florida and that's where his distinguishing gospel/R&B tinged sound and feel originate. He spent the early 2000's in college at the University of North Florida before doing a brief stint with Norwegian Cruise Line. After meeting his future wife(on a ship), he relocated to Ladner, B.C. were he's been residing since 2003. While living in Vancouver he continued to polish his craft and was the recipient of the 2008 CBC Galaxie Rising Star award. Chris originally cut his teeth in the Vancouver scene playing in salsa bands and sitting in with anyone who would allow it! But because of his versatility, he has deeply rooted himself in the Vancouver music scene and can be found in any given venue playing any given style of music from jazz to hip-hop, pop, rock, reggae, dixieland, mariachi, funk, salsa, or swing. Chris was a guest artist/ instructor at the Western Washington University during the 2012/13 school year and hopes to continue to work with their program. Beginning in October 2013 Chris will also be directing the band component of the music program at the Delta Secondary School in Ladner, B.C.
Davis currently has three self-produced releases entitled This Christmas by Chris Davis; Baile Bonita by Chris Davis Quartet; and A Night Remembered by Chris Davis Sextet. He also appears on many other recordings as a sideman including The Many Deeds of Cory Weeds with the Cory Weeds Quartet and Down In The Bottom with the Night Crawlers and The Big Band Sound. Davis has also participated in CBC Radio's Concerts on Demand series, on recordings with Zapato Negro and saxophonist Mike Allen. Some notable artists that Chris has performed with live or recorded include: Joey Defrancesco; Johnny Mathis; Nikki Yanofsky; The Temptations; The Glenn Millr Orchestra; Don Rickles, Mofro; Bob Newhart; Frankie Valli and many more!
