About Private, Semi-Private Lessons & Coaching

Faculty

The VSO School of Music’s private lesson instructors are among the finest in North America, including members of the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra, and are eager to share their artistry with  students of all levels and abilities. We have specialized faculty for childhood and youth instruction all the way to training Canada’s next generation of professional musicians.

Private lessons are offered on a range of classical and world music instruments, for students of all ages and abilities. Whether supplementing school ensemble participation, preparing for University music education or RCM exams, revisiting music lessons later in life, or beginning a new instrument you have always wanted to play, the VSO School will find just the right teacher for your needs and goals.

Students can enroll in lessons with regular faculty weekly for each term, or in packages of 4 or 8 lessons per term. Additional lessons to prepare for exams, competitions or recitals can also be accommodated.

Theory, Music History, and Composition Lessons

One-to-one and semi-private (2 students at a time) lessons in theory, music history and composition are offered for students wanting to work in an accelerated manner, or whose schedules do not allow them to attend a group class. They are designed to meet the needs of students of all levels of experience. Participants are expected to work independently on their compositions at home to discuss at each lesson. The more theoretical knowledge the student has, the more they will benefit from private composition lessons.
